FAST scores by grade: Florida score ranges for Levels 1 to 5, 2026-27
The FAST scale score ranges for every achievement level in ELA Reading and math, grades 3 to 8, what Level 3 means, why PM1 scores look low, and how Florida did in spring 2026.
The five FAST levels
| Level | Name | What FDOE says it means |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | Exemplary | Highly likely to excel in the next grade |
| 4 | Proficient | Likely to excel in the next grade |
| 3 | On Grade Level | May need additional support for the next grade |
| 2 | Below Grade Level | Likely to need substantial support for the next grade |
| 1 | Well Below Grade Level | Highly likely to need substantial support for the next grade |
So on grade level sits one level below Proficient. FDOE's own headline figure is the share at Level 3 or above.

Why the PM1 score looks low
Every progress monitoring test covers the full year's content, so in August and September a child is being tested on material the class has not reached yet. The statewide numbers show the climb.
| Grade | ELA PM1 | ELA PM2 | ELA PM3 | Math PM1 | Math PM2 | Math PM3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3rd | 25% | 42% | 60% | 9% | 33% | 66% |

PM3, in May, is the end-of-year result used for accountability. FDOE calls PM1 and PM2 "for informational purposes only".

| 8th | 15% | 24% | 20% | 18% | 24% | 61% |
Percentages may not add to 100 because of rounding. In math, the grade shown is the grade of the test: many 7th and 8th graders take a higher-grade test or Algebra 1 instead, which is why far fewer students sat the 7th grade math test.

- Compare like with like: a PM1 score with other PM1 scores, and the year-end judgement with PM3.
- Look at the reporting categories. They show which parts of reading or math went well, which is more useful than the level alone.
- Results are on Florida's Family Portal. A FAST score does not convert to a MAP Growth RIT or an i-Ready score, and school-run tests on those scales are not FAST results.
- If you want an independent read of exactly which skills are behind the result, Point of Progress is an at-home adaptive test for grades 3 to 10 that names each skill and builds practice from your child's own answers. It is not FAST and is not affiliated with FDOE.
Questions parents ask
Is 210 a good FAST score for 3rd grade?
In ELA Reading, 210 is Level 3, On Grade Level. In math it is Level 4, Proficient. The same number lands differently because each subject and grade has its own ranges.
My child is Level 1 on PM1. Should I panic?
No. PM1 tests the whole year's content in the first weeks of school, and FDOE says the result is not an achievement designation. Watch whether the score rises at PM2 and PM3.
Is Level 3 good?
Level 3 is on grade level. In Florida, Proficient is Level 4, so a child at Level 3 is on grade level but one step below proficient. Both are true at once.
